  • Qinax Tripterygium , also known as Leigongteng (雷公藤) or Thunder God Vine, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) remedy extracted from the Tripterygium wilfordii plant. This plant has been known in TCM for centuries for its strong anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating properties.

    Possible indications in TCM
Leigongteng is traditionally used in TCM to treat a variety of diseases, including:

    • Rheumatoid arthritis: Due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties, Tripterygium is used in TCM for the treatment of inflammatory joint diseases. It can help to reduce swelling and pain.
    • Autoimmune diseases: According to TCM, Tripterygium can be used to treat diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and psoriasis, as it can suppress the immune system and thus reduce the overactivity of the immune system.
    • Pain and inflammation: The plant is generally used in TCM for various inflammatory diseases to relieve pain and inflammation.
    • Cancer: In some cases, Tripterygium is used in TCM as a supportive therapy for cancer due to its anti-tumor effects.

Possible mode of action in TCM
Tripterygium is attributed a variety of effects in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in China. In TCM, tripterygium is said to have a non-specific anti-inflammatory effect. This effect can be seen, among other things, in the fact that the permeability of the capillaries can be reduced and the synthesis of inflammatory transmitters and prostaglandins can be inhibited.

In addition, tripterygium is said to have a relatively strong immunosuppressive effect in TCM and in China. This can have a promoting effect on the synthesis of cortisone (corticoids). In rheumatoid arthritis in particular, it is assumed that tripterygium could improve the physicochemical properties of the blood and promote microcirculation.

In addition to these effects, TCM in China also ascribes antiviral and anti-rheumatic effects to tripterygium. It is said to be able to eliminate painful swellings caused by "wind dampness" and relieve pain caused by rheumatic diseases. Other effects attributed to it in TCM include reducing swelling in inflamed areas, having an anti-parasitic effect, releasing toxic substances, cooling inflammation ("heat"), clearing energy pathways and eliminating pain. You can find relevant studies from China under References / Studies.
